“Save Our Stages” virtual festival to feature Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews & more Thursday, Oct 8 2020

YouTube Music and the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) have organized a three-day virtual music festival to bring attention to all the independent venues across the nation struggling during the pandemic, and to raise donations for the NIVA Emergency Relief Fund.

Reggie Watts will host #SOSFEST, which will feature 35 artists performing at different independent concert venues across the country, including Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews, Brittany Howard, Phoebe Bridgers, Leon Bridges, Black Pumas, Nathaniel Rateliff, The Lumineers, Portugal. The Man, and more.

As Foo Fighters Dave Grohl said in a statement: “The smaller music venues and the ones that are really struggling are not only culturally important, they are emotionally important.”

Johnny Nash dead at 80 Wednesday, Oct 7 2020

Johnny Nash has died.

The singer-songwriter was best known for his million-selling anthem “I Can See Clearly Now.” His son, Johnny Nash Jr., tells The Associated Press his dad died of natural causes at his home in Houston.

Nash was in his early 30s when “I Can See Clearly Now” topped the charts in 1972, but he also ran a record company and as an American-born reggae singer, helped to launch the career of his friend Bob Marley. His biggest hit, “I Can See Clearly Now”, is considered an inspirational tune, but its said that he wrote it as he “looked all around” after recovering from cataract surgery. The classic tune was covered by artists ranging from Ray Charles and Donny Osmond to Soul Asylum and Jimmy Cliff, whose version was featured in the 1993 movie “Cool Runnings.” It also turned up in the film “Thelma and Louise.”

Eddie Van Halen Dead at 65 Tuesday, Oct 6 2020

Van Halen co-founder and namesake Eddie Van Halen has died at the age of 65. The legendary guitarist had been battling throat cancer for some time now and reportedly passed away earlier today at St. Johns Hospital in Santa Monica, California.

According to TMZ, in the last 72 hours Eddies ongoing health battle went massively downhill doctors discovered his throat cancer had moved to his brain as well as other organs.

Van Halen had been battling cancer for well over a decade and had been in and out of the hospital several times over the past year including last November for intestinal issues and recently underwent a round of chemo as well.

Their classic 1979 album Armed Forces is getting the deluxe treatment with the November 6th release of The Complete Armed Forces, which will be a huge set with three 12? LPs, three 10? LPs, and three 7? singles.

Not only will it include a remastered original album with demos, outtakes and B-sides, it will also have 23 live performances, seven comic books and pulp novels with liner notes and handwritten lyrics, as well as a vintage poster and postcards.

Andrew Bird announces Christmas album & shares John Cale cover Tuesday, Sep 29 2020

Andrew Bird has been one busy fella.

He appeared on FX’s Fargo over the weekend as funeral home operator Thurman Smutny, recently reunited with Squirrel Nut Zippers for a one-off single for their forthcoming album, and on October 10th he’ll perform his 2005 album Andrew Bird & the Mysterious Production of Eggs live on Seated.

Now comes word of a new Christmas album that picks up where his 2019 holiday EP, Hark!, left off. A full-length album of the same name will feature not only the six songs from the EP, but also seven other tracks, including covers of John Prine’s “Souvenirs” and John Cale’s “Andalucia.”
