UofL Dining hosted this year’s National Eat Outside Day on Wednesday during lunchtime. Students could picnic outside, make their own smoothies, and enter to win a new bicycle.

The Women’s Center Celebrates Equality Day Wednesday, Aug 31 2022

The Women’s Center celebrated Equality Day in the Red Barn on Tuesday 11-2. Students could learn about women’s health and reproductive resources, register to vote, and enjoyed free catered food.

Sites and Sights of Work Sunday, Aug 28 2022

Thursday evening, at Schneider Hall, students from UofL’s Hite Art Institute hosted a closing reception of the exhibition Sites and Sights of Work, which detailed working class American life through a selection of lithographic prints from the university archives.

Cardinal Icebreaker Celebrates Start Of Semester Monday, Aug 22 2022

To let students relax and socialize before the semester starts, the Student Activities Board hosted the Cardinal Icebreaker all day Saturday in front of the SAC. Students enjoyed free catering by Panera, explored RSOs tabling the event, and games and activities in the Red Barn.

Poetry Night at the Ekstrom Library Tuesday, Mar 22 2022

Miracle Monocle, a student literary magazine housed at UofL, hosted its Spring Awakening Open Mic poetry night Tuesday evening 6:30-7:30 in the Writing Center in the Ekstrom library. Attendees could win prizes via raffle, and sign up to read poetry, prose, and other shortform literature. Faculty adviser Professor Strickley read her own personal creative writing, along with several students. The Spring Awakening open mic is a follow up of last semester’s Halloween themed Spooky Open Mic, also hosted by Miracle Monocle.

University Celebrates Lunar New Year Friday, Feb 11 2022

The University welcomed in the lunar new year Wednesday evening 6-8 at the Red Barn. Hosted by the Asian American and Pacific Islander Student Union, students, staff, and community members all gathered to celebrate the year of the tiger. Chinese lucky money packets (Lai See) were handed out, containing raffle tickets. Chinese lucky charms and an air fryer were among the prizes available to win. Butter mochi and boba tea was served, and a calligraphy drawing workshop showed participants how to write various Chinese words. A traditional dragon dance was held to celebrate the new year.

Planned Parenthood Art Night Wednesday, Dec 8 2021

The Students For Reproductive Freedom held an art night at the Red Barn Tuesday evening. Students enjoyed free pizza, and relaxed drawing, coloring, and making art to wind down after a hectic semester. With the art they created, many students expressed their support for women’s rights and reproductive freedoms in response to the recent wave of restrictions put onto abortion access across the country.

Honors Student Council Presents Small Press and Arts Fest 2021 Monday, Nov 22 2021

The Honors Student Council hosted their annual Small Press and Arts Fair in Bigelow hall in the MITC building Thursday from 11-4. Multiple  organizations made an appearance, like the American Association of University Women and Bake Like You Mean It, along with local student artists. Food was provided by Havana Rumba.

Counseling Center Holds Second Annual Wellness Fair Thursday, Oct 21 2021

After being delayed a year due to the COVID pandemic, The UofL Counseling Center held its second annual Wellness Fair in the Red Barn Wednesday with the theme of promoting mental and physical health and well-being. Students could learn about on-campus resource centers and their services, enter to win raffle prizes, pet and play with therapy dogs, get their caricature drawn, try their hand at live instruments, and enjoy free lunch.

Nonprofit Fair Returns to UofL for 2021 Friday, Sep 24 2021

The Nonprofit Fair returned to UofL at lunchtime Sept. 24, where many of the charities and nonprofit organizations in Louisville engaged with students. Held in front of the Red Barn, the fair featured several major nonprofit organizations including Goodwill Industries of Kentucky, Little Sisters of the Poor, Louisville Independent Business Alliance and the Salvation Army. Students could sign up for volunteer and community service opportunities and find out more about the various ways they can get involved in the community.
