U of L baseball walks away with a loss against Florida State Sunday, Apr 11 2021

By: Hannah Walker–

The No. 5 Louisville Cardinal’s baseball team played against the Florida State Seminoles on April 10 at Jim Patterson Stadium. U of L lost with a final score of 5-8.

U of L sophomore Luke Seed was the starting pitcher. He was able to pitch for four innings and make four strikeouts during his time on the mound. However, seven hits were also made by Florida State from his pitches. This put U of L behind both offensively and defensively throughout the game.

Florida State started the game off with many great hits. They scored at the top of the second inning as well as the top of the fourth. U of L continued to lag behind until the bottom of the fifth inning.

During the bottom of the fifth inning, U of L made 4 RBIs. Sophomore infielder Alex Binelas made a homerun to right field and three players were able to score: junior infielder/outfielder Cameron Masterman, sophomore catcher Henry Davis and sophomore infielder Cooper Bowman.

Still, Florida State continued to lead when they scored once during the top of the sixth inning and five times during the top of the eighth inning. U of L continued to not score until the bottom of the ninth inning.

U of L attempted to catch up to Florida State. Binelas made another homerun to left center during the bottom of the ninth inning, but it wasn’t enough to win the game.

“I didn’t think we played very well tonight,” said head coach Dan McDonnell during a postgame interview. “It’s amazing. We’re six outs away from a victory, but defensively we don’t play well.”

U of L will play against Florida State again today at 4:00 p.m. in hopes of having more motivation to win.
