Southern California is under a red flag warning for critical fire risk through Friday.

From Florida to Texas, large chunks of the southern United States were blanketed in snow Tuesday during a historic snowstorm.

At least 27 people were injured, with firefighters still working to rescue people trapped by the earthquake.

“The conditions are ripe for explosive fire growth should a fire start,” said Andrew Rorke, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

While talking of rebuilding can be a comfort for those eager for a return to normalcy, much remains unknown.

A “Particularly Dangerous Situation” red-flag warning expired without causing explosive fire growth as feared.

Nearly 90,000 households lost electricity as utilities shut off power to prevent their lines from sparking new blazes.

Fire officials advised residents in high-risk areas to just leave home – and not wait for formal evacuation orders – if they sense danger.

Earlier this week the storm brought heavy snow, as much as 7 inches in some spots, and made roads slick across much of Texas and Oklahoma before moving east.

Four days since the flames erupted in and around Los Angeles, many residents have returned to their neighborhoods even amid the threat of new fires.

Some famed spots like the Getty Villa Museum, the Hollywood sign and TCL Chinese Theatre have remained at least largely unharmed, but others have taken a toll.

Tens of thousands are awaiting word on whether their homes survived the flames — some of them the city’s most famous residents.

The fires in the Los Angeles area have consumed about 45 square miles — roughly the size of the city of San Francisco.
